Our second founder interview features Alex Negru, CEO at Minutizer. He is the initiator of the Fintech Camp community in Romania, an investor with the TechAngels Romania group and has been one of the first TechHub Bucharest residents.
With this interview series, we aim to give you an overview of what life in a startup is like for a founder, what it means to be part of a community of like-minded people and to debunk some of the most common startup myths. So let’s dive into Alex’s input about his startup experience.
Please describe what your startup life looks like
Challenging, but satisfying at the same time. In the morning I am coming to the office with a plan but if something unpredictable happens, I will catch myself working on something else. Every day is full of new ideas and tasks. It can be overwhelming but in this VUCA world (volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity), I see it as an advantage as we have the tools and willingness to become better versions of ourselves from 1 hour ago. At the end of the day, I am happy that I can build a team where the members enjoy the flexibility of working remotely in an open environment, where they can easily express their thoughts and ideas and actually implement them. Working in a startup is a great opportunity to see the evolution of a business with its ups and downs. It’s a unique experience.
What’s it like to work from TechHub Bucharest and be part of the tech community?
The best part of working for TechHub is being part of a technology-focused community, with bright talents, people willing to share their successes and failures, people with an open mind and open heart to help their community. And of course, the location, events and parties.
Tell us an unusual interview story with a candidate that applied to Minutizer
During an interview for a Customer Support role with a young male who just finished his studies, when asked about his degree area, he mentioned that he didn’t finish it per se... Yet. Because he entered the workforce. Perfect. Tell us more! He worked 2-3 weeks for Uber (which is great for a customer service role, as you can learn how to deal with people), but he didn’t like it. So, at that moment he was looking, with no rush, for a perfect “something good” job – fair compensation, respect towards employees, flexibility and possibility to work remotely. He enjoyed nature and his parents had a pension in the mountains, so he wanted to work remotely from there. He asked for a salary of over 1k EUR. We said we will call him.
